From mvr at ucar.edu Mon May 5 17:16:46 2008 From: mvr at ucar.edu (Mathew Rothstein) Date: Mon, 05 May 2008 17:16:46 -0600 Subject: [ccsm-scientists] [ccsm-progs] update on bluevista compilers - UPDATE In-Reply-To: <47E42DEC.3010101@ucar.edu> References: <47E42DEC.3010101@ucar.edu> Message-ID: <481F955E.1090102@ucar.edu> CCSM Software Engineers are continuing to work closely with the folks in CISL to resolve the problems associated with the recent upgrade to the xlf 11.1 compilers on Bluevista. The reported problems to date include: 1. Segmentation fault when CAM tries to write an initial file. This happens in non-debug mode only. Turning off initial file writes will side-step this problem (ie setting namelist variable inithist='NONE'). 2. Segmentation fault in DOM or SOM. This happens when running CAM in non-debug mode *and* mpi-only (which is currently the default for CCSM4) 3. Run-time failure in the radiation code when running the 1870_control configuration with trop_mozart_ghg_paero chemistry. This only happens in debug mode. Problems 1 and 2 have code work-arounds that will be committed to the CAM development trunk in an upcoming tag. They have also been summarized in reports to the folks at IBM for analysis. Problem 3 is still under investigation. If you encounter any of these problems, you are advised to try running on Blueice, where older versions of the compilers are used, or utilize a copy of the older compilers that CISL has installed under /contrib on Bluevista. This was explained in our original announcement, attached below. And if you encounter any other sort of problem that you believe may be related to the compiler upgrade, please pass that information along to us in CSEG. We apologize for any inconvenience and we will keep you informed of any progress on these matters. Mathew V.
