Dear Karl,

I guess the idea was to define a general attribute
grid_mapping="gridding_method grid_parameter1: value1 grid_parameter2:
value2 .... grid_parametern: valuen"
where the number and names of the grid_parameters are depending on the
gridding_method.
In the case of a rotated lat/lon grid this would be for example
grid_mapping="rotated_latitude_longitude   grid_north_pole_latitude: 32.5  grid_north_pole_longitude: -170.
north_pole_grid_longitude: 10."
I think that is what Brian and Jonathan have in mind, if I understand them
right.
Thus the experts on the grids you mentioned may define the names for the
grid_method and the parameters for their grids, and propose this to the CF
group to become an official part of the CF conventions.

regards
Burkhardt

Dear all,

Is this system general enough? The French (LODYC) have a grid for their
ORCA model in
which both poles are located in the N. Hemisphere. (Which is the north
pole?).
The HOPE model at MPI can have 3 poles (at least in one configuration). I
think we
should try to make CF general enough to accommodate these.

Karl
