I would like to propose the following new variables in the list of 
standard_names, which are helpful for meteorological data sets:

friction_velocity    (m s-1)
upward_latent_heat_flux_in_air (W m-2)
upward_sensible_heat_flux_in_air (W m-2)
water_vapor_mixing_ratio (g kg-1)
distance (km)
