From andrew at ucar.edu Mon Dec 3 16:01:36 2007 From: andrew at ucar.edu (Andrew Gettelman) Date: Mon, 3 Dec 2007 16:01:36 -0700 Subject: [CAM Macrophysics] CAM Macrophysics Update Message-ID: Greetings, This is an occasional email to update everyone on progress and status of CAM cloud developments. We promised in July to check back in November or December on progress, in advance of the Winter 2008 AMWG meeting, currently planned for February. Current progress is on the wiki at: http://swiki.ucar.edu/cam-dev/macrophysics Progress to date includes: 1. Checked in version of a 2-moment microphysics scheme which is coupled to the aerosols in CAM. This is an option in the current code. 2. Development of ideas for treating convective condensate in the radiation scheme 3. Initial development of a detailed ice nucleation scheme on top of the new 2-moment microphysics. There is detailed information on the wiki. Click on 'latest update' at the top of the page (http://swiki.ucar.edu/cam-dev/ macrophysics#Latest) each of these developments has some further information. There has not been progress on implementing the diagnostic PDFs, which simply need to get ported up to the current code, and hooked up with new versions of the cloud fraction. If you have other updates, please commuicate them via the wiki, or directly to me (email is fine) and I can post them. In particular, I am interested in progress on adjustments to the condensation closure and to development of triangular PDFs. We will have more updates at the winter AMWG, and perhaps before. We hope to have some sort of extended discussion of where we are with various pieces, so I would like to get a full sense of what people are doing. Thanks for your help. Comments and questions welcome.
