From andrew at ucar.edu Fri Mar 23 15:25:11 2007 From: andrew at ucar.edu (Andrew Gettelman) Date: Fri, 23 Mar 2007 15:25:11 -0600 Subject: [Microphysics] Microphysics Discussion in April (New scheme in CAM) Message-ID: Greetings, This is a followup message to the group that participated in the CAM microphysics discussions in November of 2005. We would like to schedule a 2 hour follow-up session sometime in late April to discuss progress. This would cover (1) the implementation of a new microphysics scheme in CAM, (2) talk about how to evaluate it and (3) discuss future opportunities for microphysical modeling across scales. We are happy to say that there has been good progress in the last few months developing a new microphysics parameterization for the Community Atmosphere Model. The development has been a joint effort of Hugh Morrison (NCAR-MMM), Steve Ghan (PNNL) and myself (NCAR-CGD). The scheme is by no means final or official, so comments and suggestions are welcome. We plan to hold the discussion at the NCAR Foothills Lab, and broadcast the meeting presentations and discussion for those from out of town who would like to participate remotely. We expect to have some simulations available to look at before this session. Please let me know if you are interested in (a) attending or (b) listening in, and if 10a-12pm MDT would work for you on: Monday April 23 Wednesday April 25th Monday April 30th For this meeting, we would plan on about 30-40 minutes of presentations describing the detailed and global performance of the scheme, and then have time for questions and discussion of evaluation and the next steps. If there are other interested parties in the NCAR or CAM community who should receive this message, please let me know. If you have questions or comments, please also let me know. Based on people's preferences, we will hold the session presenting and discussing CAM microphysics on: Monday April 30th, 10am-noon, NCAR Foothills Lab FL2 1003 (Note: this is one of the smaller conference rooms right near the main entrance to the Foothills lab). I am working on remote access to this session for those not in Boulder. I expect it will be a web-meeting arrangement (with presentations available beforehand for download as a backup) with a conference call for audio). If you have not already replied, please RSVP, especially if you are planning on listening in so I can guess numbers. I will probably send out one more email to the general microphysics list with an agenda the week before, and then detailed instructions to only those who have replied a few days prior. Thanks again for your interest and your time. You contributions are valuable to us.
